Black Birds: The New Style of Spring

Details says that black is hottest color for men this spring. Do you agree?

Interview: Sharing My Style Inspiration with Copious.com

Photographs by Julie Michelle

Last year I was asked by my friend Ms. Emma Starks to help launch a new series for Copious.com, a cool new fashion e-commerce startup. Copious Crush aims to find where people like me draw their style inspiration from by having us choose our favorite items on the website. Read mine below (or originally on Copious) and go browse yourself to see what you can find in this new awesome fashion treasure trove.

Here is my interview:

Oscar is the ultimate man about town – always in the loop on what’s happening, who’s playing, and where fun and adventure can be found. From going on tour with The Flaming Lips, to planning an apocalypse-themed birthday extravaganza, to speaking about dating in the digital world, he’s always got his paws in something exciting.

Introduce Yourself! What’s your name, where do you live, and what do you do?
My name is Oscar, I live in San Francisco and I write for RollingStone.com.

How would you describe your personal style?
“American Bastard,” classic Steve McQueen Americana meets silly/funky/gaudy/fun/foreign touches.

Do you have any fashion regrets? Or vice versa, things you’ll never
stop wearing?
I think I’m too safe when it comes to fashion — I want to take more risks so that I can have more regrets. That’s half the fun, right? One thing I will never stop wearing is my Obey suede hoodie, which I bought way before Shepard Fairey did his Obama poster.

What inspires you?
Fearlessness in youth.

I hear you’re working on a book right now. Can you tell me about that?
It’s a gay love story set in San Francisco. In the future. And with robots.

What are you listening to right now?
Dragonette’s new album, remixes of Ellie Goulding’s new single and the up-and-coming rapper K. Flay.
Tell me about your ideal day. What do you do, where do you go, who are you with?
My ideal day would consist of me not sleeping in. Going to early capoeira class, then brunch while reading the New York Times Sunday paper.
What are you loving on Copious right now?

Sensitive Soul, Severe Uniform: Bruno Fernandes by Marcio del Nero for Junior Magazine

Earlier this month, this fashion editorial for Brazil’s Junior magazine took over Tumblr (as most remotely interesting photos of attractive men tend to do). Photographer Marcio del Nero uses impeccably soft lighting to bring out bearded Bruno Fernandes’ warm side, even while posing with a one-dimensional stern expression. And can we talk about that cap?

According to the director of the photo shoot, the cap and the uniform were from Fetish Shiny, a kink boutique in Sao Paulo. I browsed their website for a bit, but couldn’t find the items. Actually, I couldn’t really find that much gear or accessories for men. I guess only Brazilian male models get to live out their fantasies.

Fashion Show: Burberry Prorsum Menswear Spring/Summer 2013

The way this Burberry collection mixes busy vintage patterns, colorful metallic fabrics and modern cuts is genius. Retro deco to die for. Although I’m not a fan of the bright sandals over socks…
