Sex & Advertising: Von Brandis Rip Offs

A reader brought to my attention that the post I wrote on artist Von Bradis last month had come off a little too familiar… Ah, yes, apparently the white body silhouette aesthetic was also utilized by ad firm Ogilvy & Mather in Singapore to create posters for a retro decor store. Props to them for including some same-sex man lovin’ (above).

It’s obvious that the figures here are cardboard cutouts and different from Von Bradis’ censored porn performers, but the look is indisputably similar. You know what they say, no good art can last before we see it splattered on a billboard. Check out the original inspiration here.

Artist Von Brandis’ Censored Vintage Pornography

South African artist Von Brandis collected vintage footage from porn films and blurred out the performers to create these fleshless images titled Obscene Interiors. The only thing obscene about the photos, however, is what they leave to the viewer’s imagination.
